Lasting Powers of Attorney

The benefits of making a will are well known but there are also opportunities

available to make provision in advance for the possibility of you becoming incapable of managing your own

affairs during your lifetime. A change in the law relating to Powers of Attorney took place on 1 October 2007

when Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPA) were replaced by Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA). EPAs entered

into before 1 October 2007 remain valid and can continue to be used as normal and may still be registered with the court.

The advantage of an LPA is that it allows the attorney to deal not only with the financial and property affairs of the

donor but also with personal welfare issues.
